Business and Information Technology - Sapulpa

Business and Information Technology is designed to integrate business skills with computer technology and prepare graduates for success in the business world and for advanced educational opportunities. Following a core curriculum, students will select the Administrative Support/Accounting or the Business Management Pathway that fits their business career objectives. The curriculum will present various aspects of the business environment including e-commerce, desktop publishing, technical office skills, customer service, business administration, and accounting.

Career Majors in Business and Information Technology


Career Major: Billing Clerk

Billing clerks calculate charges, develop bills, and prepare them to be mailed to customers. By reviewing purchasing records and making or verifying calculations, they ensure that even the most complicated bills are accurate. Billing clerks review hospital records, purchase orders, sales tickets, or charge slips to calculate the total amount due from a customer. They prepare itemized statements, bills, or invoices used for billing and recordkeeping purposes.

Career Major: Financial Clerk

This career major prepares students for entry-level work in the accounting field. Students learn the fundamental concepts, principles and ideas needed to understand how businesses operate. They also gain basic office and computer skills including word processing, and spreadsheet software along with a strong foundation in accounting principles and techniques.

Career Major: Accounts Receivable Clerk

Accounts receivable clerks verify and post accounts receivable transactions to journals, ledgers, and other records. They follow established procedures for processing receipts, cash etc., sort and file documents after posting, and often prepare bank deposits.

Career Major: Payroll Accounting Clerk

Payroll accounting clerks compute and disburse wages and salaries, deductions, taxes and other withholdings. They post payroll data and prepare routine reports and/or payments to government agencies, insurance companies and others. They also calculate and process special checks, and review, edit and make corrections and adjustments as needed.

Career Major: Accounts Payable Clerk

Accounts payable clerks review invoices for accuracy and completeness. They sort documents by account name or number, and process invoices for payment. Many perform other basic clerical duties associated with accounts payable, such as posting transactions to journals, ledgers and other records.

Career Major: Full Charge Bookkeeper

Full charge bookkeepers record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work. Among their other responsibilities are budgeting, performance evaluation, cost management, and asset management. Usually, they are part of executive teams involved in strategic planning or the development of new products. They analyze and interpret the financial information that executives need in order to make sound business decisions, and perform work in various areas, including financial analysis, planning and budgeting, and cost accounting.

Career Major: Help Desk Representative

Prepares students for careers in customer service and technology troubleshooting. Students gain personal computing skills and learn the concepts, principles and attitudes needed in the office environment. In addition, they focus on basic customer service skills including assessing customer needs, educating customer, selling processes, solving problems, making decisions, leading others, working in teams and applying technology to solve problems. Students gain skills required for numerous industry-related certifications.

Career Major: Administrative Assistant

Administrative assistants perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties necessary to run an organization efficiently. They serve as information and communication managers for an office; plan and schedule meetings and appointments; organize and maintain paper and electronic files; manage projects; conduct research; and disseminate information by using the telephone, mail services, Web sites, and e-mail. They also may handle travel and guest arrangements.

Career Major: Office Information Specialist

Office Information Specialists coordinate and direct the many support services that allow organizations to operate efficiently. They perform a broad range of duties, such as overseeing secretarial and reception services, administration, payroll, conference planning and travel, information and data processing, mail, materials scheduling and distribution, printing and reproduction, records management, telecommunications management, security, parking, energy consumption, and personal property procurement, supply, recycling, and disposal.

Career Major: Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship

Students prepare to develop and manage their own businesses. Students are introduced to career opportunities and the skills needed to become an entrepreneur. They learn the fundamental concepts, principles and ideas necessary for an entrepreneur to be successful. In addition, students gain skills necessary to effectively communicate with coworkers and with external business contacts.

Career Major: Entrepreneur

The responsibilities and duties of entrepreneurs depend on the nature of their companies. Most frequently the owners’ primary functions involve planning, money management, and marketing. They need to be aware of the size of the market for the product or service they provide, and they must adapt to changing market conditions by creating new products, improving services, or promoting their company in a new and innovative way.

Earn college credit while attending Central Tech through our cooperative alliance agreement with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. College credit is awarded by appropriate higher education institutions through Articulation and/or Cooperative Alliance Agreements.
